When you think Colombian coffee, you might first think of the mustachioed “Juan Valdez” and his faithful mule pitching 100% Colombian coffee. Yes, Colombian farmers, with significant support from the Colombian government, have long excelled at marketing their product to American consumers. But don’t let the marketing hijinks obscure a simple truth: Colombian coffee is often excellent; exhibiting the full gamut of tasting notes that coffee provides.
We think this coffee from the Tolima region is one of those excellent Colombia coffees. The beans were farmed by members of the Café Tolima Suave association which represents 154 coffee producers in Tolima. The association’s commitment to Organic agricultural practices ensures its members receive a premium on the international market for their efforts. Proceeds are also reinvested in several community programs promoting reforestation, sustainable gardening, sensorial education, and entrepreneurial education for women.
