Xinabajul was the original Mayan name of the western Guatemala region now known as Huehuetenango, which is renowned for its exceptional coffee. This crop was grown on nearly 400 small family farms that stretch across a dozen towns in the region. Most grow not only coffee but also bananas, oranges, lemons, avocados, guava and cassava. The farmers are all members of the cooperative ASPROCDEGUA (Asociacion de Productores de Cafe Diferenciados y Especiales de Guatemala) which provides technical assistance as well as food security, education and nutrition services for their communities.
