With warm, humid summers and cool, dry winters, the subtropical highland climate of southwestern Tanzania's Songwe region is ideal for growing coffee. This crop comes from Shimiligwanda Estate, the second oldest farm in the Vwawa ward. Formerly known as Kamaro Farm, this 67 acre tract has expanded to 130 acres since its sale in 2017 to a Tanzanian entrepreneur. Active improvements to the estate, including increased irrigation and reservoir expansion, provide work for roughly 100 year round employees and about 250 seasonal workers from surrounding villages.
